School Telehealth Resources
Dolly Parton Children’s Hospital is excited to work with your child’s school to provide care for minor illnesses while your child is in school. Sometimes it is hard to be seen because of work or provider schedule. Our goal is to make it easier to get pediatric care for your child. This can be done while they are at school by a virtual health visit with a pediatric provider.
How does school virtual health work?
The school nurse will call you if your child has a complaint that could be seen with a virtual health visit. Your child will be seen by our pediatric provider using virtual health tools. These virtual health tools allow for evaluation of complaints such as fever, sore throat, pink eye, ear infections, coughs and colds, allergies, and rashes.
What can the providers treat?
- Mild fever
- Ear pain
- Cough
- Congestion
- Sore throat
- Pink eye
- Runny nose
- Rash
- Nausea/vomiting
- Mild headache
- Skin infection
- Head lice
- Tooth pain
- Seasonal allergies
- Flu-like symptoms
- Mild upper respiratory symptoms
What tests can you do?
The school nurse can test your child for Strep throat, Flu, and Covid-19.
What if my child needs a prescription?
Prescriptions can be sent to your pharmacy. If you cannot get to your pharmacy, Children’s Hospital Outpatient Pharmacy can coordinate free delivery to your home, your doctor’s office or an approved alternate location. If you choose to have your child’s medication delivered, the outpatient pharmacy will ship securely. If you cannot be there to accept the package, we can arrange for it to be left at your home or at another approved location.
Does a parent or guardian have to be at the school for the visit?
You do not have to be present for the visit. We do encourage you to join the visit by phone or video. This allows you to ask questions or share concerns.
If I cannot join, how will I know what is wrong with my child and how to treat it?
You will receive a phone call after the visit. Information will be available for you to review on the patient portal. If your child does not have a portal, you will receive a secured text message and you will need to log in with your child’s date of birth to access the discharge note.
What if my child already has a doctor?
We do not take the place of your child’s doctor. We only provide care for minor illnesses. We always ask you to follow up with your child’s doctor. If your child does not have a doctor, we are happy to help you find one.
Will insurance cover this visit?
Currently TennCare covers virtual visits. Some private insurance companies also cover virtual visits. We will submit any visit to your child’s insurance. If your child does not have insurance, we recommend contacting TennCare at 855-259-0701 to see if you qualify for TennCare or CoverKids for your child. You can also apply online at https://tenncareconnect.tn.gov.

Myra Campbell, CPNP
Virtual Health Nurse Practitioner
Email: mscampbell@etch.com
Myra is a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP-PC) with several years of PNP experience and over 10 years of pediatric nursing experience. Throughout her career, she has worked in diverse clinical settings, including pediatric ICU, primary care, and most recently, as the dedicated provider for school telehealth at Dolly Parton Children’s Hospital (Children’s Hospital).
Myra holds a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of South Florida and is deeply passionate about caring for children from infancy through adolescence. Her ultimate goal is to deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care – helping children feel better as quickly as possible while supporting their families through every step of the process.
School telehealth is especially meaningful to Myra because it allows her to reach children who may not otherwise have access to timely pediatric care. This ensures children stay healthy, supported, and ready to thrive both in and out of school. She also places a strong emphasis on education – always encouraging open communication with patients, families, and school nurses, answering their questions, and addressing concerns to build confidence and trust. Myra is incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work with Children’s Hospital and for the privilege of serving as the dedicated provider for school telehealth. She takes great pride in the trust that families place in her to care for their children each day.
