Season of Giving With Wren - 2025

A Letter from Wren's Mom, Rylie

Wren, 2025 Season of Giving Ambassador

My son’s life is a testament to God’s goodness and grace. Wren’s journey began much earlier than expected - born at just 29 weeks and 3 days, weighing 3 pounds, 2 ounces, and measuring 16.25 inches.

What started as a routine doctor’s visit quickly turned into preterm labor. On March 22nd, at 10:37 p.m., surrounded by 16 people in the delivery room, Wren entered the world. At first, he seemed to be doing well. But days later, doctors discovered a rare birth defect called a tracheoesophageal fistula—his esophagus and trachea were improperly connected.

Wren was safely transported to East Tennessee Children’s Hospital with an incubator made for the tiniest, most vulnerable patients. He needed emergency surgery, and the hospital became our new home.

On March 26th, his doctors performed a successful surgery to repair his esophagus, no bigger than a cocktail straw. The days that followed brought trial after trial: E. coli, a brain bleed, two collapsed lungs, premature kidneys, and all the struggles of being born far too soon. Wren endured ventilators, chest tubes, wires, and monitors. Every day felt like a roller coaster of fear, hope, and prayer. After 68 days in the NICU, on May 29th, we finally brought Wren home—home to the mountains, to his room, to where he belongs.

Rooms 590, 565, and 574 at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital are forever etched in our memories. From the doctors and nurses to the cafeteria team and janitorial staff, we are endlessly thankful for the people who cared not only for Wren, but for us.

Wren, 2025 Season of Giving Ambassador, with Mom, Rylie

Today, Wren is thriving. His specialists have gone from twelve down to six, and each one remains connected to East Tennessee Children’s Hospital. Every visit reminds us of the team who stood beside us during our hardest days. Wren’s story is one of faith, resilience, and hope—and it’s a story we’ll never stop telling.

East Tennessee Children’s Hospital needs your help raising $166,430 to purchase another transport incubator, so they can continue to make more stories like Wren’s possible for other children and their families.

Help them take care of our future, one child at a time by donating today.

Sincerely,
Rylie
