Children's Hospital Home Health Care provides follow-up care to children who do not need to be in the hospital or under constant watch by healthcare professional. These children still need extra medical attention during recovery and illness. Home health care is provided based on the child's needs and if their doctors, families and Home Health staff believe that in-home care would be effective. Home health staff may assist your family for as little as two to three days or as long as necessary.
Home Health begins to plan for your child's in-home treatment before he is discharged. A home health staff member works with doctors throughout a patient's stay to determine if he needs in-home care after he goes home. They evaluate the equipment he will need and the medication he will be taking at home to determine if home health care will benefit him. They then create a special plan for your child and family and will arrange a visit with you at home. These services may include follow-up care for wounds, monitoring cystic fibrosis medication, infusion services and helping with your child's use of medical equipment like oxygen tanks and CPAP machines for sleep apnea. Additionally, car seats for children with certain special needs, such as children who have a spica cast for hip dysplasia, are provided by Home Health through East Tennessee Foundation's Mount Rest Fund.
Home Health serves 16 counties in the greater East Tennessee region. The East Tennessee Children's Hospital Home Health office is located at 11227 W Point Dr, Knoxville, TN 37934.

From 2012-2013, Home Health staff completed more than 21,800 visits to patients' homes. Our nurses and Home Health staff only take care of infants, children and adolescents. They are well-trained to provide care so that children can be with their families as they receive expert medical attention. The specialty does not employ new graduates, so all staff have had real-world experience with pediatric care before treating your child.
