Day 0 – 3: REST
Strict elevation of the affected hand above the heart at all times.
No active or passive range of motion at this time.
Use of NSAIDs for pain (ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil)
Day 3 – 7: MOVE IT
Passive range of motion within the provided dorsal blocking splint.
Gentle finger wrapping with Coban and to help with edema.
Week 2 – 3: MOVE IT
Active range of motion to half a fist.
Begin differential gliding for Zone 2 injury.
Week 4 – 6: MOVE IT
Full active range of motion and purposeful hand motion allowed while in splint.
May remove splint during exercises and focus on full extension.
Week 6 – 8: MOVE IT
Splint worn only between exercises.
All “active range of motion” motions allowed.
Week 8 and beyond: USE IT
Return to full use and active strengthening.
