Meckels Scan

Meckels scan is a scan that looks for inflamed areas intestines that could be causing rectal bleeding.  The radiotracer is injected into the IV.  The patient is tilted on the side and the camera is positioned at an angle to record images for 40 minutes.  If necessary, the patient will be asked to empty his/her bladder and take a two-minute post void picture.  The patient cannot eat or drink anything 4 hours before the exam.

**Sedation is not an option for this test as it slows down digestion and could give false results.
