Dr. Liske was born in British Columbia, Canada, and graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1989. He completed his residency in general pediatrics with the Air Force and thereafter served as an Air Force pediatrician for 4 years. In 1999 he completed his cardiology training at the University of Michigan with a special emphasis in fetal and advanced echocardiographic imaging.
From 1999 to 2003, Dr. Liske practiced in Knoxville, followed by an academic position from 2003 to 2009 at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. He found particular joy teaching the next generation of cardiologists and attained the position of Clinical Professor of Pediatrics. He continues to maintain an active affiliation with the Vanderbilt team.
In 2009, he returned to Knoxville to practice with Dr. Yvonne Bremer, and in 2023 they were pleased to join Dr. Sumeet Sharma and Dr. David Hurst to form East Tennessee Children’s Hospital Pediatric Cardiology. He continues to specialize in fetal imaging and the care of patients with complex cardiac defects.
Dr. Liske is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
Dr. Liske has a particular passion for patients in underserved regions of the world and led the first Vanderbilt cardiac surgical team to Kenya's Tenwek Hospital in 2008. Since then, he has returned to Tenwek on an annual basis as the local team progresses to full independence in the care of adults and children with heart disease.
When not seeing cardiac patients, Dr. Liske loves spending time with his wife who is a family physician, and their four adult children and guinea pigs. He also enjoys travelling, reading, and fly-fishing the tail-waters and streams of the region. His family is committed to the ministries of Two Rivers Church, Knox Area Rescue Ministries, Samaritan’s Purse, and Widowed Parent Relief Project.
