Pediatric Research Symposium 2026

We are excited to announce that East Tennessee Children’s Hospital and the Department of Pediatrics, UTHSC College of Medicine - Knoxville will be hosting the inaugural Pediatric Research Symposium 2026

  • WHEN: Friday, April 10, 2026
  • WHERE: East Tennessee Children's Hospital
    2nd Floor, Koppel Plaza
  • TIME: 4pm-7pm

We want to not only showcase research but to also provide an opportunity to meet with researchers of all levels to share their learnings and experiences.

Eligibility

  • Trainees of all levels and disciplines, Faculty, and Staff are welcome to submit an abstract.

This includes, but is not limited to, Medical Students, Residents, Fellows, Physicians, Physician Assistants and PA Students, Nurse Practitioners and NP Students, and Nurses and Nursing Students.

Preferred Content Areas

Abstracts must be pediatrics focused, but content areas may include:

  • Patient case reports
  • Quality Improvement projects
  • Advocacy projects
  • Basic, clinical and transitional research

Submission Information

    Abstract submission deadline is Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at 11:59 pm EST.

    Abstract format:  

    • Word limit is 600 words (excludes title, authors, institution, tables, figures, and references).
    • Suggested headings include but are not limited to Background, Objectives, Design/Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
    • The presenting author must be identified in the submission email.

    Notification of Acceptance

    All abstracts will be peer reviewed. Presenting authors will be notified of acceptance decisions on Friday, March 6, 2026.

    The top 3 abstracts will be selected for a 10-minute podium presentation at the symposium. The remainder of the accepted abstracts will be poster presentations.

    Awards will be presented to the top presentations and abstracts.

    Symposium Schedule

    The tentative symposium schedule is as follows:

    • 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm “QI Toolkit for Integrating QI Into Your Practice” presented by Dr. Jeanann Pardue, CQO and Katie Basta, MBA, RN, CPHQ, Director of Quality, Patient Safety and Medical Affairs
    • 5:00 pm – 5:15 pm Break
    • 5:15 pm – 6:30 pm Poster Session with interactive judging; Viewing; Hors d’oeuvres 
    • 6:30 pm – 6:45 pm Break
    • 6:45 pm – 7:15 pm Abstract Podium Presentations
    • 7:15 pm – 7:30 pm Awards and Closing Remarks

    Accreditation

    The East Tennessee Children’s Hospital is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
