Our employees are our greatest strength at East Tennessee Children's Hospital. We couldn't affect the lives of the children in this area without the tireless dedication of our medical, support, administrative and all other employees that come to work each day. Here is how some of them feel about being part of the Children's Hospital team, in their own words..
"What does Children's Hospital mean to you?"
I have been honored to call East Tennessee Children's Hospital my home for the last 25 years. What truly makes our hospital special are the patients and the team I work beside each day. I can honestly say there has never been a day when I dreaded coming work. How blessed we are to do meaningful work where we can impact the lives of children during their most vulnerable times.
My home unit is the Emergency Department, it can be a fast-paced environment where we see a wide range of illnesses and injuries. During my years in the ED, I have cared for mildly ill to some of the most critical patients. While we never want a child in our community to be seriously ill, if they are, we want them to be here where they can receive top-notch care. Our nurses, doctors and clinical care team are highly skilled and knowledgeable in caring for pediatric patients.
East Tennessee Children's Hospital has provided a place for me to use my skills as nurse and enabled me to develop relationships with many of our patients and families. I think we have the best hospital in the region and am proud to call them my employer.
-- Carol, Emergency Department Nurse Manager
"I love working here because we all have the same goal; helping kids and their families during a stressful time in their lives. I also love just watching kids continue to be kids while they are in the hospital; playing and growing."
-- Anna, Hematology/Oncology Child Life Specialist
“Before I worked at Children's Hospital I developed software for the hospital for many years as a vendor and got to know several of the technical people I now work with. Besides a prior working relationship my children spent time in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit when they were born, and because of this experience I also ended up serving on the hospital's Family Advisory Council. Over the years I got to know several of the hospital administrators and was always really impressed with everybody I worked with. They truly care about their employees and the patients they serve. Therefore it was an easy choice to come to work at Children's Hospital when a position opened up. Everyday I go home knowing I've accomplished something that makes a difference. Surrounded by talented coworkers I also feel I'm continuing to learn new skills, and that we work well together as a team. I've been at Children's Hospital since 2012 and it's been a great experience.”

I was drawn here as a college student back in the early 90's. I was studying nursing, and I quickly found out that in our local Knoxville community East Tennessee Children's Hospital was the "expert" regarding all things children! I was further drawn in by the family atmosphere that was quite different than the other healthcare institutions around us, in the corporate arena. I loved knowing that if I overheard someone discussing a children's health topic, it would soon be followed by, "Children's says..." or "Children's does..." and "We are so lucky to have them here, versus having to take our child far away to..."
