A Mother's Gratitude: The Story of Elias and His Path to Recovery

A Mother's Gratitude: The Story of Elias and His Path to RecoveryElias, age 4, was once a victim of shaken baby syndrome. Today, he has a big personality that keeps his family on their toes. At three months old, Elias spent more than a month in the PICU, followed by over a year of ongoing care at multiple specialty clinics within our hospital. From ophthalmology to neurology, along with repeated evaluations by a forensic physician, his progress is a testament to the exceptional care we provide at Children’s Hospital. Elias’s mother said, “I am forever thankful for the compassion, dedication, and exceptional care shown to Elias—and to us—by every nurse and doctor along the way.”

Elias is often found feeding his chickens, playing with his little sister, or building things with his dad—typical four-year-old activities he enjoys thanks to the speech, occupational, and developmental therapists at Children’s Hospital. “He has come so far from that little boy we were once told probably wouldn’t breathe on his own. I am forever grateful for ETCH, the doctors, nurses, therapists, and even the cafeteria workers who kept me fed for so many nights with smiles on their faces,” his mother said.
