It's Time to Get Your Flu Vaccine

It's Time to Get Your Flu ShotFlu season is upon us and getting vaccinated can help protect your child and others around them.

Did you know that children who are two years old and younger are highly susceptible to the flu, especially under six months old? The flu virus travels in little drops that spray out of an infected person's mouth and nose when they sneeze, cough or even laugh.

Who can get the flu vaccine?

Everyone six months or older can get the flu vaccine. Make sure to talk to your child’s pediatrician before they receive the vaccine in case of rare exceptions.

When should you get the flu vaccine?

The best time to get a flu vaccine is in October because it gives the body time to build immunity.

Why should you get vaccinated?

Flu shots can reduce the severity and length of illness for those who are vaccinated and get sick. Your child is also helping protect other children around them, especially those who may not be able to receive it.

How can I help prevent my child from getting or spreading the flu?

  • Get the flu vaccine.
  • Wash your hands often, especially before eating and after coughing, sneezing, or blowing your nose.
  • Keep your sneezes and coughs to yourself (use a tissue or your elbow instead of your hand).
  • Keep your hands out of your eyes, mouth, and nose.

Check with your child’s pediatrician about how you can get the flu shot to protect you and your family.
