Policy on Monoclonal Antibody Treatment
We are getting lots of calls from parents inquiring about monoclonal antibody treatment for children with COVID-19. East Tennessee Children’s Hospital is offering the treatment for patients who meet specific criteria and are referred for the infusion by their primary care physician. All children must be over the age of twelve, be at high-risk for severe illness from COVID-19, and must not be currently hospitalized with the virus. Monoclonal antibodies quickly activate the body’s immune response, making it harder for the virus to spread and cause infection. This is a preventative treatment aimed at keeping high risk COVID positive patients and those with a significant exposure from getting sick enough for hospitalization. Check with your child’s primary doctor to see if he or she is eligible.
