Pictured right: Current/former patient scholarship recipient Kristen Branham
with the Volunteer Scholarship Committee. Kristen was diagnosed with leukemia
at age 12 and has been an active part of Children's Hospital ever
since (both as a patient and a VolunTeen). Kristen plans to become a Child
Life Specialist when she graduates.
Last week, the Children’s Hospital Volunteer Council awarded eight
area teenagers with scholarships for college.
The recipients of the 3rd annual award presentation are members of the hospital’s VolunTeen
program, current/former patients, or both.
Applicants were required to write essays about their volunteer experience.
Winners were then selected by a committee. This year’s scholarship
Kristen Branham received the current/former patient scholarship
Destiny Simpson received the Taylor Corum Memorial scholarship
Hayley Edwards, Hannah Lawson, and Lindsey Troop received VolunTeen scholarships
Delaney Allison, Brandon Rowell, and Sarah Wilbanks received book scholarships
Funding for the scholarships came from various Volunteer events throughout
the year, including managing game-day parking during football season.
