Ben Welch Recognized for State-Wide Efforts to Save the Lives of Children

Children’s Emergency Care Alliance of Tennessee has selected Ben Welch, PhD as this year’s recipient of the Joseph Weinberg, MD Leadership Award. Dr. Welch is the Clinical Pharmacy Services Manager at East Tennessee Children's Hospital. This award recognizes Dr. Weinberg’s dedication of long-standing service to the life-saving needs of the children of Tennessee and support of the principles of the national Emergency Medical Services for Children program.

Mr. Welch is an appointed member of the Tennessee Department of Health, Committee on Pediatric Emergency Care (CoPEC). CoPEC is an advisory committee to the Board for Licensing Healthcare Facilities and the state Emergency Medical Services Board, which recommends standards for quality care of ill and injured children in Tennessee. Members of this committee serve voluntarily as a public service without compensation.

As part of his duties, Mr. Welch serves as a member of the Standards and Data committees. He has worked tirelessly to review medication delivery practices across our state and to develop standard pediatric dosing guidelines. These standards will be used for medication administration dosing tools that will be endorsed for use across the state.
