4:30 Evaluations

Course objectives:

  1. The participant should be able to compare and contrast the therapeutic approach to the pharmacological management of condition commonly seen by school nurses.s
  2. The participant should be able to supplement the pharmacological and therapeutic information provided to students and parents by prescribers and pharmacists.
  3. The participant should be able to identify gang related clothing and symbols.
  4. The participant will be able to identify the components of a successful weight loss program for children.
  5. The participant will be able to describe the medical complications of childhood obesity.
  6. The participant will review the school nutrition program and comprehend the importance of physical activity in the schools.
  7. The participant will be able to identify signs and symptoms of an asthma exacerbation in the school-aged child.
  8. The participant will be able to perform proper technique for administering metered dose inhalers and nebulizer medications.
  9. The participant will be able to identify new diabetes technologies.
  10. The participant will be able to calculate a mealtime bolus dose of insulin using insulin-to-carb ratios and correction factors.
  11. The participant will be able to identify signs and indicators that a child is being abused or neglected.

Registration Information

  • The tuition fee is $45, which includes continental breakfast, conference materials, lunch and refreshments. Registration deadline is June 1.

Directions to the school nurse conference at Rothchild Catering & Conference Center:
Please note the change in location from previous school nurse conferences. The new location, Rothschild’s Conference Center on Kingston Pike in Knoxville, offers a larger space, enabling us to welcome a larger number of guests.

From I-40 W (from Nashville and Chattanooga)

  1. Take Exit 379 (Bridgewater Road and Walker Springs Exit)
  2. Turn right on Bridgewater Road (next traffic light) and drive a short distance.
  3. Turn right onto Kingston Pike (next traffic light). Ted Russell Nissan is on the right.
  4. Continue on Kingston Pike and go through the next traffic light (King’s Way) and turn right into the Baron’s Place shopping center, immediately next to Grayson Subaru.
  5. Rothchild’s Conference Center is the last building on the right in the shopping center.

From I-40 E (from east of Knox County)
PLEASE NOTE: Interstate 40 in downtown Knoxville is CLOSED to through traffic between James White Parkway (exit 388A) and Hall of Fame Drive (exit 389). Please use the following detour:

  1. From Interstate 40 Westbound, take exit 393 to I-640
  2. Remain on I-640 until it merges back to I-40.
  3. Take the right ramp to get back on I-40 Westbound.
  4. Take Exit 379 (Bridgewater Road and Walker Springs Exit)
  5. Turn left on Bridgewater Road (second traffic light) and drive a short distance.
  6. Turn right onto Kingston Pike (next traffic light). Ted Russell Nissan is on the right.
  7. Continue on Kingston Pike and go through the next traffic light (King’s Way) and turn right into the Baron’s Place shopping center, immediately next to Grayson Subaru.
