Plan Healthy Activities with Your Child
This summer, use your child's school vacation as an opportunity to try new and healthy activities together. By encouraging your child to get moving and make healthy choices, you are setting an example that will stick with them for years to come.
1. Take a walk around your neighborhood or a park nearby. Make sure to turn your phone off and keep it stowed away so you and your children can enjoy being outside together. Ask your children questions about what they see, and talk to them about the trees and plants they see.
2. Cook together. Let your children help plan a healthy dinner to celebrate National Children's Day on June 8. Bring them to the grocery store to shop with you. Give them a job in the kitchen as you prepare the food so that you're working as a team.
3. Start a family garden. Even if you don't have a green thumb, you can grow simple vegetables and herbs in your own yard. Water your plants with your children each day, then use what you've grown in your kitchen throughout the summer.
4. Organize a family and friends kickball game. Bring healthy snacks and water for the teams to enjoy in between innings and even out the teams in terms of skill and size.
