Congenital Heart Disease in Children

We most often think of heart disease in adults, but congenital heart disease is also fairly common in children. If un-detected, heart defects in children can be serious, even life threatening. Heart defects occur before birth, while the fetus is still developing and these affect about 1 in every 100 children. Joining us now from Children's Hospital is Cardiologist Dr. Jeff Jennings.

Watch this video of Children's Hospital Cardiologist Dr. Jeff Jennings discussing the signs and symptoms of heart disease.

It's Children's Hospital's mission through Project Adam TN to place AEDs in all local schools to prevent death from sudden cardiac arrest. In this school year alone, we've already placed 36 AEDs in Knox County elementary schools and expect to add several more in Knox County and surrounding counties by the end of this school year.
